“My Why”, By Tom Gibbs, Board of Directors

My name is Tom Gibbs, and I am proud to be serving as Vice President and Board Member of the Laguna Beach Police & Community Foundation whose mission is to serve our police officers and support staff who provide critical public safety for our community.

I readily accepted my positions on this important Foundation because of my strong interest in public safety. Prior to being appointed to the City’s Design Review Board (on which I presently serve), I served as Vice Chair of the Laguna Beach Emergency Disaster Preparedness Committee and saw first-hand the important work by our police force that protects our lives and property. In that role, I interacted with the Police Chief and other department personnel including on budgets, recruitment, officer needs and strategic plans, and learned that City funding cannot do the job alone. That is where the LBPCF plays a critical role.

The LBPCFoundation mission is to provide funding for important benefits for our police officers and support staff, including scholarships for their children, financing the Police Honor Guard and other worthy activities, and financially supporting officers and their families in times of special need, for example where an officer is injured, or God forbid dies, in the line of duty. Importantly, being there and able to provide these benefits helps recruit and retain the best officers, and improves overall moral, by their knowing that the LBPCF supported by the whole Laguna Beach community has their back.

The Foundation cannot meet its mission without community support in the form of tax-deductible contributions.
