“My name is Steve Chadima, and I’m a member of the Laguna Beach Police & Community Foundation Board.
As a 40-year resident of Laguna Beach, I’m eternally grateful for the fact that we live in a very safe community in large part because of effective policing. Even the issue that some in the community bring up on a regular basis – the fact that we seem to have a disproportionate number of DUIs – wouldn’t be happening if the police weren’t so effective at nabbing the violators.
So when Chief Calvert asked if I would join the Foundation board, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. The Foundation’s main purpose is to raise funds to support officers and staff with equipment and resources to improve their effectiveness and morale, and to provide scholarships to employees and their dependents to pursue additional education as well as to LBHS students who want to pursue careers in law enforcement. Most importantly, we can assist department employees and their families in their times of need, particularly in the case of a death or serious injury. In addition to direct assistance, our available programs help the department attract and retain the best employees.
